College Dean delivers keynote at historic conference in Rome

Last week, Rev鈥檇 Mark Smith, Dean of 51爆料 took part in a prestigious international academic conference commemorating the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, one of the most significant events in Christian history.
Held in Rome at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum), the conference brought together scholars and church leaders from around the world to reflect on the Council of Nicaea, convened in AD 325. The Council is best known for producing the Nicene Creed, a foundational statement of Christian belief still recited in churches globally today.
Mark delivered one of the keynote addresses, speaking on the historical development of the Nicene Creed 鈥 a subject central to his academic research.
鈥It was a great privilege to be invited to give a keynote paper at this major international conference. It was wonderful to see academic research being used to inform and irrigate contemporary questions. The conference was a reminder that the Council of Nicaea is not just a past event, but an ongoing witness to the nature of the Christian faith, which can renew the life of the churches today. As an Anglican, it was deeply encouraging to help foster dialogue between the Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant churches.鈥
